Synthesis Receives Award from ASLA NY Upstate Chapter

Synthesis received a Merit Award/Built Design from the American Society of Landscape Architects New York Upstate Chapter (ASLA – NYU) for the Waters Edge Lighthouse Restaurant Site Design in Glenville, New York.

The project site contained unique design opportunities and challenges, being located along a sloped section of the Mohawk River. The design incorporated these opportunities and challenges through the design of a multi-level circular brick landscape patio form, using a modular block retaining wall system. The goal was to provide a variety of accessible outdoor seating areas for the Lighthouse Restaurant patrons, engaging the site’s topography, and fostering views to the river.

The multi-disciplinary jury stated that, “…from where it started it is a remarkable transformation. Good resolution of design to accommodate the flood plain. Outdoor dining appropriate scale for both the building and open space. Landscape architect seemed to play a significant role in the project."

The ASLA – New York Upstate Chapter Merit Award of Achievement recognizes professional work of significant quality, innovation or professional impact. The Built Design category includes streetscapes, waterfronts, park and recreation projects, commercial and industrial projects, subdivisions and residential developments.
