Synthesis was retained by the Kent Revitalization Committee to conduct a visual evaluation within the main roadway corridor leading to the Town Center. The purpose of the study was to conduct a visual analysis of the corridor with the end result being a set of master plan recommendations and initiatives that could be used in improving the visual image and create a sense of identify within the corridor. We worked closely with the Kent Revitaliza- tion and Restoration Committee to shape the final recommendations.

Community character and image are very important in creating a sense of place. Visitors and investors are drawn to communities which have the perception of being orderly and visually appealing. Our study achieved this goal by recommending how to: improve the visual image to entry and arrival points into the community (gateways), enhance unique natural features, create view alleys to important manmade and natural features, selectively clear roadside vegetation, celebrate historical sites, control unsightly signage and poorly sited buildings and parking lots, maintain the natural and introduced landscape, create a sense of place and identity, and establish guidelines for facades, signage and new development.
