A central elevated promenade spine forms the foundation for the rehabilitation design of the existing ball fields in Schenectady’s Central Park. The new spine provides a focal point for the park, which incorporates a walkway, concession, storage, and seating areas, restroom facilities, and an elevated announcing booth tower. A curvilinear “Wall of Champions” engages the new structures and spine, providing an opportunity to showcase the baseball heritage of the City.
The Central Park Ballfields won the 2000 Design Honor Award from American Institute of Architects/Eastern New York. It is noteworthy that this is one of the rare instances when the AIA/ENY has recognized a project that is primarily a landscape architecture and site planning project with this honor.
