Synthesis, with the Vitetta Group, proposed this renovation of the historic courthouse, and the construction of an adjacent five-story building to create a civic complex for the judicial system of Schenectady County. A glass atrium, serving as a public lobby, would connect the existing courthouse to the new courthouse. The atrium design preserves the exterior detailing of the original courthouse while prominently displaying the restoration for visitors and workers in the facility.

A tunnel connecting the east section of the complex to the county jail booking area is also proposed.
