Synthesis began work at the Lally Family Center by assisting the Capital District YMCA in developing plans for a new child care center within the existing school and gymnasium building in Scotia. Synthesis worked closely with YMCA staff and volunteers to develop the program and design, then coordinated and reviewed compliance issues with the New York State Office of Child and Family Services field officer.
Aided by several meetings with the staff and volunteers and an interactive design process Synthesis developed plans which maximized potential student to teacher ratios (profitability), met all child care and life safety codes, optimized program spaces, circulation and building security while limiting capital construction cost. Synthesis prepared construction documents for negotiation with a contractor pre-selected by the YMCA and provided normal construction administration services.
Following several years of operation the YMCA called Synthesis back to the center to design and provide documents for building modifications necessitated by changes in New York State childcare regulations.
